Officer Jake Reed Memorial Scholarship

The Officer Jake Reed Memorial Scholarship shall be awarded to a Missouri Southern Student who has been admitted to the MSSU Law Enforcement Academy attending either the fall or spring semester day or night courses. The recipient must not be sponsored by any police department to attend the Law Enforcement Academy. Preference will be given to either a graduate of MSSU having earned a bachelor’s or associate degree; or a current MSSU student having completed a minimum of 40 hours with at least a 2.5 GPA.
Recipients are selected by the Chair of the Criminal Justice Department and shall provide finalist information on the life and service of Officer Reed. Finalist shall then submit a short essay (no more than 300 words) describing why receiving said scholarship would be important to them. The Chair, in consultation with the family, shall decide the recipients(s). The essay portion of the criteria shall be reviewed by the Chair annually for viability and effectiveness. This Scholarship is renewable for up to four years.
