Rebekah Blair Hughes Joplin Globe Journalism Scholarship

The Rebekah Blair Hughes Joplin Globe Journalism Scholarship shall be awarded to students majoring in Communications, English, Art/Graphic Design, or Political Science with a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA and enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours each semester. Recipients will be identified by a member of the MSSU Department of Communications, preferably the advisor to the Chart student newspaper, in the spring semester prior to the academic year in which they will receive the award. Recipients will be required to work as a member of the Chart staff duriing the initial semester (fall) they receive the award. The following spring semester, recipients will work 10 hours per week at the Joplin Globe in a trainee, mentee, job shadow, or similar role. The scholarship may be renewed for other academic years, depending upon a positive evaluation by a designee at the Joplin Globe, and depending on the need for future full-time semesters toward graduation at MSSU. Should it be determined the Joplin Globe wishes to retain the services of the recipient for the following academic year, the student will work at the Joplin Globe both semesters. The original intend of the endowment was to fund four(4) scholarships annually of $2,500 each. Accordingly, and based on available funds, it should be the intent of MSSU to identify four(4) recipients each academic year. In years where additional funds are available, it may be permissible to make five awards.
